Description
We are very pleased to announce this renewed series.
We are going to have a speaker every two weeks but could fluctuate. Please check out the schedule from our website. http://conscious-machine.org/club/
We do not limit a topic of CC to consciousness studies but focus on cross-disciplinary studies potentially related to consciousness such as machine learning, neuroscience, philosophy, psychology, etc.
We are pretty much welcoming people with full of curiosity. Dr. Akaishi focuses on research about meta process of decision making.

Title: “Meta” processes in the Human Brain: A View from Multiscale Computations
Abstract: What is the unique nature of information processing in the human brain? Importance of this question is growing given the recent developments of AI and Machine Learning technologies. Researchers have argued that it is “meta” property of information processing: monitoring or processing about information processing. These meta processes have been discussed in rather philosophical viewpoints. In recent studies, more functional views are presented in the research of decision making. The observed phenomena include history-dependent biases in perceptual decision making and long-term predictive decisions in the experimental paradigms of foraging decisions, which mimic the situations of foraging behavior of animals in the wild. These experimental observations share the patterns of behavior whose effective time range goes beyond a trial. By integrating these findings with relevant literature, I would like to propose that computations in the human and animal brains proceed in multiple scales in time and space.
